The Center for Astronomy, Space Science and Astrophysics (CASSA) is recruiting three Research Assistants (RAs) to take on three distinct tasks over an 11-month term, 1 August 2026 – 30 June 2027.

Each RA works under the supervision of a CASSA Core Member to conduct research and contribute toward publications. Applicants may be post-baccalaureate or graduate degree holders, and the pay scale is determined by qualifications. Exceptional candidates who do not meet the post-baccalaureate/graduate criteria will also be considered.

Note that these are full-time positions — 9 am to 5 pm, five days a week, in-person at CASSA — and an RA must not hold any other job or position during the term. Currently enrolled students, undergraduate or graduate, are therefore not eligible.

These positions are funded by the CASSA Annual Budget, and appointees will hold the official title “CASSA Research Assistant.” Separately, we aim to open another circular in a couple of months for “ARC Research Assistant” positions — funded by the various ARC (Accelerating Research at CASSA) funds of our Core Members.

Before applying, explore this website to understand CASSA’s research areas and the projects of our Core Members — your application should make clear which areas and people your skills and interests align with.

The three positions

RA (Astrophysics)

A solid background in astrophysics, demonstrated by relevant coursework and papers, and the ability to understand the science behind the data. This RA works closely with a Core Member on the scientific interpretation that turns observations and analysis into results.

RA (Observatory)

Joins the group dedicated to building the next observatories of CASSA — with a particular focus on the optical setup and its installation. Hands-on, instrumentation-facing work assembling and commissioning the hardware that CASSA’s future observations depend on.

RA (Software)

Leads the software pipelines for analyzing data and controlling the observatory, along with other software needed across CASSA’s research projects. The technical backbone connecting the instruments, the data, and the science.

General responsibilities

  • Conduct research under the supervision of a CASSA Core Member.
  • Contribute toward publications.
  • Work collaboratively across the astrophysics, observatory and software efforts.

Terms

  • Positions: 3 (one Astrophysics, one Observatory, one Software).
